Ni-Cd for critical communications sites
Back-up power for communications is critical for maintaining voice and data systems on-line as close to 100% of the time as possible. Nickel cadmium batteries provide this reserve power in ambients and under conditions where other batteries do not perform or have a very short life. In many cases the life cycle cost for the nickel cadmium battery is a fraction of that for alternative batteries even though its initial cost may be significantly higher. These nickel cadmium batteries can be charged with conventional charging equipment and frequently fit into the space allocated for alternative short lived batteries.

Batteries for telecommunications are used to power microwave sites, cellular base stations, remote network terminals, central offices and for starting standby generators.

The selection of the battery type best suited for a particular application will be based on duration of support time, limitations of available space, maintenance intervals and environmental conditions. Single load battery sizing worksheet
