Ni-Cd in gas-turbine power generation application
Gas turbine power plants typically have requirements for DC power for several different functions that must be supplied regardless of availability of normal site power.

These include:
Start-up power which typically requires several cycles of high starting currents each lasting 60 seconds or more ( large turbine sets typically use other than electric start systems)
Power for lubricating pumps which run for 20 - 30 minutes after turbine shut-down
Control power for electronic systems which monitor and control the entire installation
Alarm and fire protection systems
Air conditioning for critical systems

Due to the critical nature of each of these functions, each requirement is served by a single dedicated battery, having an end voltage dictated by the parameters of that particular load. Mixed load battery sizing worksheet
